Diagnostic Testing

Autism Assessment

If you have concerns about your child’s ability to succeed at school due to language, socialization or sensory issues and suspect your child is on the autism spectrum, Baby Steps Therapy can help. Utilizing a team of professionals (Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Educational Psychologist), we will assess your child to determine if your child is on the autism spectrum (Autism, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD), and Asperger Syndrome)

Baby Steps Therapy uses a full range of assessment tools to diagnose autism including:

• Direct Observations of your child
• Parent Interview and a comprehensive Developmental History
• Gilliam Autism Rating Scale – Second Edition (GARS-2)
• Gilliam Aspergers Disorder Scale (GADS)
• Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Functioning (BRIEF)
• Behavior Assessment System for Children—Second Edition (BASC-2)
• Childhood Autism Rating Scale—Second Edition (CARS-2)

Theses assessments offer a standardized, semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction and play for individuals who may have an autism spectrum disorder. The findings and assessments done by Baby Steps Therapy may be shared with your child’s educational setting to help determine appropriate classroom accommodations and for consideration of eligibility for special education services.

Learning Disability
If your child has difficulties in school and you want to find out if the difficulty is due to a learning disability, Baby Steps Therapy can help.

We can assess your child to determine if his/her performance in school is commensurate with his/her cognitive ability. Some of the issues we can test for include:

• Dyslexia
• Dyscalculia
• Dysgraphia
• ADD/ADHD
• Non Verbal Learning Disability
• Intellectual Disability

In addition to administering standardized tests, your child will receive a comprehensive evaluation which includes a review of records, developmental history, parent interview, and observations. At the end of the evaluation, you will also be provided with a comprehensive report which a Licensed Educational Psychologist will review with you and answer any question you may have. In addition, recommendations based upon your child’s unique learning needs, will be provided.
